Parallel Action

When Logos Circle / Ibadan asked residents what was wrong in their area, poor waste disposal and dirty streets came up. Following their own playbook, the Circle made it its first winnable issue.

The original plan was a clean up in a park inside a higher institution, leaving waste baskets behind and handing out bags in the streets around it. The institution asked for a formal letter first, but although the Circle sent one on time, permission was refused.

Rather than let that hold them up, the 12 members took the work to the streets on 29 August. In Agbowo and Bodija, they handed out more than 250 waste-disposal bags to over 150 households, shops, and traders, talking to each of them about how they get rid of their rubbish. Then they put on gloves and masks and cleaned a street in Bodija.

Afterwards, the group sat down to talk about what comes next, whether monthly clean-ups on new streets or on the same one until it stays clean, a back-to-school project for younger pupils, or mapping the skills inside the Circle itself. The decision is for the next meeting. The report signs off with two lines: ‘Tools, not permission. Action, not permission.’
