Most of what a Circle does is for other people. Every so often, though, the issue at hand lands on one of the activists in the movement.

That is what happened at the May meetup of Logos Circle / Benin City, where a case was brought to the table. Both parents of one member were seriously ill at the same time. The Circle's report puts it plainly: "The father is currently on dialysis and is also managing a kidney infection alongside [an] enlarged prostate. The mother urgently requires surgery for Stage 3 ovarian cancer."

The Circle did not pass a hat. Instead, they opened a campaign on FundBrave, the crowdfunding platform people in the movement had been building, and pointed it at the family. Once the campaign was live, anyone could give in naira by bank transfer or in USDC, ETH or DAI straight to a vault. The money sits in a multisig, and moving it takes three of five signers: the Circle's community lead, a family representative, a rotating community treasurer, the platform, and Logos oversight. Each release is then tied to a named treatment rather than handed over as a lump sum.

By the time the Circle's report went up on 27 May, over 750,000 naira of the 1.5 million naira goal was already in and the mother's surgery was booked for two weeks out.

In the end the campaign did not hit its final goal. Still, on 22 July the Circle reported the mother's surgery a success.

"This is exactly why we built FundBrave," Paschal's report says, "and seeing it work for one of our own has been the most meaningful proof of the idea so far."
