LNS
LNS (the LEZ Name Service) is a name service by jefdiesel that runs on the Logos Execution Zone (LEZ). Its Names app for Basecamp lets a person post, message and get paid under a name, using Logos Messaging for messages.
What it does
- It registers a short name, such as
jef, on LEZ. On testnet a name takes a refundable deposit of 1,000,000 testnet LEZ and does not expire. - The README says the chain sees only an identifier derived from the name, never the name itself. A name held from a private account changes through a zero-knowledge proof (a check that shows a change is valid without revealing who made it), made on the user's machine.
- A name has a profile and a page of its own HTML, which anyone who knows the name can read.
- A public board holds posts, replies, likes and follows, each signed by a name.
- Direct messages and group chats between names travel over Logos Messaging, through Basecamp's chat module. The README says they are end-to-end encrypted.
- Payments to a name go from a private account. The README says the chain does not show who paid whom or how much.
- A second anonymous name can be made, held by its own private account. The README says nothing on chain links it to the main name.
- A command line client, a JavaScript resolver and a read-only MCP (Model Context Protocol) server for AI agents are in the same repository.
Stage: Prototype. The README, last updated in November 2026, says it is "Live on the public LEZ testnet". It also says it was "Suggested as a Logos RFP". It reports a security update on 2 November 2026 that applied every fix from an independent review, which found 1 critical, 2 high, 3 medium and 3 low issues. The README does not say whether it is an official Logos project.
Use it
- Install the command line client with the install line in the README, then run
names setup. It runs on macOS (Apple Silicon) and Linux (x86_64), and uses the public LEZ testnet by default. - In Basecamp 0.3.2, open Settings, then Package Repositories, and add
https://logos-names.wrapit.workers.dev/basecamp/logos-repo.json. - Install Names from Applications, not from Package Manager. The install brings both the Names app and the Names module.
- Press Launch. The Welcome screen checks the command line client and walks through picking a name.
- Welcome's Get free tokens button gives 2,000,000 testnet LEZ once a day from the Names faucet. The README says this needs both the client and the app on 0.10 or later.
- The README gives about 20 minutes for a private registration (about 35 in its end-to-end test from a clean setup). Each private change is a proof on the user's machine that takes a few minutes.
Build it
- It needs Rust 1.98.1 and the RISC Zero toolchain (cargo-risczero 3.0.5), which builds the program the proofs run.
cargo test -p names_core -p names_sealtests the program logic without a chain.cargo build --release -p names_methodsbuilds the guest (the program the proofs run), andcargo build --release -p names_clibuilds the client.- The README says this guest build is not reproducible. A reproducible build with
cargo risczero buildneeds Docker.
