The Czech dissident [[Václav Benda]] set it out in 1978 in an essay for the signatories of [[Charter 77]]. He proposed parallel structures in culture, education, information, the economy and politics, to supply what the official order failed to provide. The essay first circulated as [[samizdat]]. The Circles handbook traces its idea of a parallel society to the parallel polis, and the Logos website calls Logos "the private-by-default technology stack for parallel societies".
