In August, [[Circles/Kaduna|Logos Circle / Kaduna]] set out to help 50 widows in their community with a medical outreach action day. The event was a success, with more than 100 people attending, widows and elderly members of the community among them.<br />

The outreach was set up as a series of stations. It began with a talk on hepatitis B and C and how they spread, followed by blood pressure and blood sugar checks and hepatitis tests. Anyone who tested non-reactive for hepatitis B was offered a first dose of the vaccine. Doctors then went through each person’s results and prescribed treatment, a pharmacy handed out the medication, and optometrists from Eagle Eye Clinic Kaduna examined their eyes. DJFL Foundation, House of Abundance RCCG, and members of [[Circles/Kano|Logos Circle / Kano]] helped run the day. For several of those who came, according to the report, it was “the first time a medical outreach of this nature had been organised within their community.”<br />

The Circle ran it with very little outside funding. The second vaccine dose is still to come, and the next phase moves on to the widows’ livelihoods, with small business grants, support for businesses they already run, and financial literacy.<br />
<br />
[[Circles/Gombe|Logos Circle / Gombe]] took on another health gap: helping people who don’t know their genotype, and so can’t know whether their children could be born with sickle cell disease. On 20 September, the Circle ran free genotype testing at ECWA Urshalima Bagadaza. Four medical laboratory scientists collected 49 samples, seven local volunteers helped bring people in, and everyone who took part was told what their result means for starting a family. It was the first stop in a series the Circle plans to take to other communities across Gombe State, so stay tuned.<br />
