== What is Logos? ==
We are a movement for builders, explorers, and dreamers who refuse to accept the world as it is, and we are taking power back into our own hands. Our mission is to restore agency, trust, and civic power by giving people tools to explore, innovate, and improve their lives using decentralised technology.

Logos exists at the intersection of human exploration and technological revolution. We&#39;re part of a generation fed up with corruption, surveillance, and stagnation often associated with incumbent institutions.

As Bitcoin did for money, Logos enables permissionless, censorship-resistant governance institutions that solve real problems. However, unlike most public blockchains, Logos protects privacy across the network, ensuring it remains sovereign and secure.

We believe everyone should have access to governance that reflects their values and improves their lives. All people should be free to exit hostile, corrupt, and inefficient systems. For the first time in history, we can achieve this.

=== Logos Circles ===
Logos Circles are self-organised groups that take action to address issues that matter in their communities. Rather than trying to reform broken or rigged institutions, they focus on building practical alternatives that can operate independently and be sustained through the network.

Logos Circles are the heart of the movement. Through civil organising, skill-sharing, and relationship-building, these local chapters lay the foundation for distributed, parallel governance.

Circles respond to local needs, build trust through solving real problems, and experiment with real-world applications of Logos tools, infrastructure, and values.

Find the list of active Circles [https://logos.co/active-circles here].

=== The Logos technology stack ===
The Logos Technology Stack is a unified ecosystem of distinct modules. The entire stack is modular, so developers can assemble their own Logos-based platform with a different selection of modules.

The system’s technical foundation is a hybrid microkernel-microservices architecture that initially combines three existing core protocols:

* [https://logos.co/tech-stack '''Blockchain:'''] Decentralised computing and consensus.
* [https://logos.co/tech-stack '''Messaging''']''':''' Private, censorship-resistant communication between parties.
* [https://logos.co/tech-stack '''Storage''']''':''' Decentralised file storage and retrieval, using content-addressed (CID-based) data
* '''Logos App:''' A complete distribution that bundles the kernel, a microkernel responsible for the essential primitives every decentralised application needs, along with default modules and UI packages into a fully usable product. It provides the primary user interface, hosting simple apps that let users interact with different modules.

=== An Open Source Movement ===
Logos is an open-source, values-driven community built through collective effort. We experiment, build, and grow together, not just as individual contributors, but as a civic body.

Being open-source at Logos means more than publishing code. It’s about shared responsibility, transparent governance, and a commitment to solving real problems through voluntary collaboration. We organise around a common purpose: protecting individual freedom and enabling collective prosperity to renew civil society.

We welcome anyone inspired by the Logos mission to help build and steward what comes next.

== How to join a Logos Circle ==
Each Circle is a local group that meets in person at least once a month.

Meetings are usually structured around a winnable issue — a specific, local problem that the group identifies and works on together in a practical way.

Circles are designed to move from discussion to action, building trust and momentum through small, achievable outcomes.

=== How to start a Circle ===
Circles bring together people in different roles, with different motivations and levels of experience. You don’t need to fit a specific mold, what matters is that you care about building something real with others.

One of the following roles may resonate with you:

'''Activist / Participant'''<br />You care about a local or societal issue and want to contribute. You’re looking for community, purpose, and practical ways to make an impact—without needing to lead.<br />''Action'': [https://logos.co/active-circles Join one of the ''Active Circles''] or [https://discord.com/invite/Ykv4eZyHUJ join the community].

'''Circle Steward (Organiser / Leader)'''<br />You are someone who takes initiative. You like bringing people together, organising activities, and turning ideas into action. You’re motivated to build and sustain a local community over time.<br />''Action'': [https://logos.co/movement#activist-circle Propose a new Circle]

'''Activist /''' '''Builder''' <br />You like creating things—tools, systems, research, media, or infrastructure. You’re motivated by solving real problems and contributing your skills to something meaningful.<br />''Action:'' [https://logos.co/movement#activist-builder Build for impact]

== Why we need Logos Circles ==
We are living through a period of structural decline. Across the West, institutions are losing legitimacy, economic systems are under strain, and communities are increasingly fragmented. Many people feel unable to rely on existing systems to provide stability, opportunity, or a sense of belonging.

==== 1. Institutional Collapse &amp; the Trust Crisis ====
* Only 4 in 10 people globally trust their national government ([https://www.oecd.org/en/about/news/press-releases/2024/07/governments-must-better-engage-all-citizens-to-tackle-growing-gaps-in-trust.html?utm_source=chatgpt.com OECD 2024]).
* In advanced democracies, 64% of citizens are dissatisfied with how democracy is working ([https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/06/30/dissatisfaction-with-democracy-remains-widespread-in-many-nations/?utm_source=chatgpt.com Pew Research 2025]).
* Traditional political institutions feel unresponsive, corrupt, or broken—especially among the young, marginalised, and digitally fluent.

<blockquote>
→ Circles respond by giving people a tangible alternative: a space to organise, meet like-minded people, solve real problems, and take back agency.
</blockquote>

==== 2. Authoritarianism &amp; Networked Suppression ====
* Over 70% of the global population now lives under authoritarian or eroding democratic regimes ([https://www.democracywithoutborders.org/35822/authoritarian-suppression-further-on-the-rise-eiu-2024-democracy-report/?utm_source=chatgpt.com Democracy Index 2024]).
* Free expression is increasingly criminalised. Centralised digital platforms are weaponised by governments and corporations alike.

<blockquote>
→ Circles uses Logos’ cutting-edge technology stack to create a resistant civic space designed to protect basic civil liberties from oppression and corruption.
</blockquote>

==== 3. The Meaning Crisis &amp; Collapse of Community ====
* Philosopher John Vervaeke describes a global meaning crisis, where individuals are cut off from coherent sources of purpose, identity, and collective belonging.
* Robert Putnam’s ''Bowling Alone'' famously documented the decline of social capital in the US—fewer clubs, churches, unions, neighbours, and civic spaces.
* Today, loneliness and disconnection have reached epidemic levels. In the UK and Japan, governments have even appointed Ministers for Loneliness.

<blockquote>
→ Circles revive the social fabric by creating new communities based on shared values, rituals, mutual aid, and purpose-driven collective action.
</blockquote>

=== Logos Circles solve this ===
They are spaces for:

* Building relationships rooted in values.
* Creating rituals of mutual connection.
* Acting together to help each other as a purpose.
* Rebuilding civic life from the ground up.

These challenges are not temporary. They are the result of deeper structural issues that cannot easily be resolved through reform alone. As trust declines and institutions become less effective, individuals and communities are left to navigate these conditions with fewer shared resources and weaker support systems.

Each Circle identifies gaps in its local environment - whether in mutual aid, education, coordination, or access to resources - and works to develop small, functional systems to address them. Over time, these efforts contribute to a wider network of support, capability, and shared infrastructure.

Through this approach, Circles aim to:

* Rebuild local capacity and self-reliance
* Strengthen community ties and shared responsibility
* Create practical alternatives where existing systems fall short
* Contribute to a broader network of aligned communities

<blockquote>
→ Circles are not just discussion groups. They are a starting point for rebuilding civic life from the ground up, through coordinated action, shared values, and long-term commitment.
</blockquote>

==== How the Logos Stack Enables the Work of Circles ====
* Blockchain: a decentralised consensus layer enabling local governance and rulesets.
* Messaging: censorship-resistant messaging for secure communication.
* Storage: private storage for documents, identity, and shared knowledge.

<blockquote>
→ Circles use these tools to prototype real-world, resilient institutions: mutual aid systems, peer-to-peer marketplaces, community-owned infrastructure, and more.
</blockquote>

== Circles Charter ==
The Circles Charter defines the purpose, principles, and operating model of Logos Circles. It establishes a shared framework for how local Circles are formed and organised.

==== 1. Purpose of Circles ====
Circles exist to rebuild civil society by enabling local groups to:

* Build '''real community (tribe)'''
* Develop '''agency (ability to solve problems locally)'''
* Execute '''winnable civic actions in the real world'''

==== 2. Core Principle: Winnable Issue Defined Before First Circle ====
Every Circle is built around an initial, '''pre-defined winnable issue'''.

This issue is:

* Identified and designed during '''Steward training'''
* Prepared in parallel with Circle recruitment and promotion
* Executed in the '''first month of Circle activity'''

Following the execution of the first issue, the Circle decides as a group what issue to tackle next.

==== 3. Definition of a Winnable Issue ====
A winnable issue must:

* Be complete in '''≤ 3 months total lifecycle'''
* Have visible, local impact
* Be executable by volunteers (low dependency on institutions)
* Produce a measurable outcome

===== Examples (link to Issue buckets): =====
* Park or street clean-up
* Community safety or lighting improvement
* Local mapping or coordination system
* Small digital tool or workflow for civic coordination
* Physical improvement in partnership with local actors

==== 4. Operating Model ====
Circles follow a '''four-stage execution lifecycle''':

===== Stage 1 — Steward Training (Pre-Circle) =====
The Steward:

* Completes training
* Identifies '''one winnable issue'''
* Defines:
** clear problem statement
** success criteria
** execution steps
** required volunteers/resources
* Begins recruitment '''in parallel'''

Output:

A fully defined, ready-to-execute winnable issue + initial participant pipeline

===== Stage 2 — Recruitment &amp; Setup (Parallel Phase) =====
While the Circle is being formed:

* Steward recruits participants
* Communicates clear mission (“we are doing X”)
* Pre-aligns expectations around execution

Key rule:

Participants join an '''action''', not a discussion.

===== Stage 3 — Circle 1 Execution (Month 1) =====
Circle 1 is an execution container.

It includes:

* Alignment on issue plan
* Final coordination
* Volunteer mobilisation
* Execution of the winnable issue

Primary goal:

<blockquote>
Complete or materially deliver the winnable issue within 30 days of Circle launch
</blockquote>

===== Stage 4 — Review &amp; Iteration (Post Month 1) =====
After execution:

* Document outcomes (report + media)
* Share publicly on Logos forum
* Evaluate success
* Decide next issue cycle

==== 5. Circle Session Types ====
Circles operate through two session types:

===== 1. Action Sessions (Core) =====
* Volunteer days
* Cleanups
* Field execution
* Direct civic work

===== 2. Execution Planning Sessions (meet-up style) =====
* Logistics and coordination
* Resource alignment
* Task breakdown
* Relationship building
* Reflection
* Recruitment

==== 6. Funding Model ====
===== Circle Stipend =====
Each active Circle receives a monthly stipend from Logos.

The stipend is intended to support the Circle&#39;s mission and gives Stewards the flexibility to decide how it is best used to create local impact.

The stipend may be used for things such as:

* Venue hire
* Food and refreshments
* Travel for Stewards
* Materials or equipment
* Printing (where appropriate)
* Costs associated with delivering the Circle&#39;s winnable issue
* Donations, supplies, or other direct support for organisations or community partners where this contributes to the Circle&#39;s winnable issue

Rather than allocating separate budgets for venue, food, printing, or other categories, Stewards are trusted to determine the best use of the stipend based on their local context and priorities.

===== Funding Timeline =====
* Logos provides a monthly stipend during a Circle&#39;s initial three-month launch period.
* After the launch period, active Circles continue to receive one stipend per quarter, provided they continue meeting the criteria outlined in this charter.
* Stewards are encouraged to make the stipend go as far as possible by seeking community partners, donations, sponsorships, or low-cost meeting formats where appropriate.

===== Funding Conditions =====
Continued eligibility for the stipend requires:

* Submission of a public report after each Circle, including photos or other evidence of activity (faces may be hidden to respect privacy).
* Completion of the first winnable issue within 30 days of Circle launch.
* Completion of a new winnable issue at least once every three months.
* Regular Circle activity and participation.

===== Hard Rules =====
If a Circle does not complete a winnable issue within its three-month lifecycle, stipend payments will be paused until the Circle returns to good standing.

If a Circle does not meet for three consecutive months, the Steward will be offboarded and the Circle removed from the active programme if there is no other active Circle member willing to step up to Steward.

==== 7. Reporting Requirements ====
After every Circle:

Must publish a report on Logos forum including:

* Issue being addressed
* Actions taken
* Outcome (or current status)
* Evidence (photos, documentation, outputs)
* Next steps

No report = no continued funding eligibility.

==== 8. Steward Responsibilities ====
Stewards are responsible for:

* Designing the initial winnable issue during training
* Facilitating the discussion to define future winnable issues with Circle attendees
* Ensuring execution happens within timeline
* Coordinating logistics and sessions
* Publishing Circle reports

==== 9. Support Model Shift ====
To make Circles successful under this model, support shifts from “meetup funding” to “execution enablement”.

===== Support systems: =====
===== 1. Issue Design Templates =====
Pre-built winnable issue formats (the “issue buckets” including:

* cleanup day
* mapping exercise
* infrastructure micro-fixes
* civic coordination tools

===== 2. Steward Training System =====
Focus on:

* defining executable issues
* building simple action plans
* ongoing training through courses on the e-learning platform

===== 3. Steward coaching layer =====
* weekly office hours
* troubleshooting execution issues
* helping refine issue scope

===== 4. Recognition + visibility loop =====
* highlight successful Circles publicly
* create visibility for Stewards across the global network
* reinforce success culture through storytelling

===== 5. Fundraising Support =====
Support for Circles to raise additional funding and increase the visibility of local initiatives, including:

* creating a fundraising page
* promotion through Logos X channels
* feature posts on the Logos blog
* dedicated X posts
* opportunities to present campaigns in Logos X Spaces
* local PR and media outreach support where appropriate

==== 10. Success Metrics ====
* ≥1 winnable issue completed per Circle in Month 1
* New winnable issues executed every three months
* High-quality public reporting after each Circle (forum and X)
* Repeatable Steward onboarding → execution pipeline established

----

=== Future Direction (Charter V2) ===
The charter above defines the operating model for the next '''4–6 months''' as we validate the Circles movement and establish repeatable patterns for successful local organising.

Following this initial phase, the programme will evolve to include additional layers of economic coordination, governance and network participation.

The following features are planned for '''Version 2'''.

==== 1. Savings &amp; Mutual Aid ====
Every Circle will operate a local savings and mutual aid fund.

This fund forms the economic foundation of the Circle by encouraging financial discipline, building trust between members and creating local capacity for community investment.

Funds accumulated through the savings circle may be used to:

* support local community initiatives
* provide mutual aid to members where appropriate
* act as collateral for future access to on-chain lending markets

Savings circles will become a core part of every Circle&#39;s long-term operating model.

==== 2. Expanded Stewardship Structure ====
As Circles mature, leadership responsibilities will be distributed across a number of formal officer roles.

Every Circle will be expected to appoint, at minimum, the following officers.

{| class="wikitable"
! '''Officer''' !! '''Function'''
|-
| '''Steward''' || Runs the Circle, facilitates meetings, coordinates activities and serves as the primary point of contact with regional support.
|-
| '''Treasurer''' || Manages the Circle&#39;s savings fund and finances, records contributions and provides financial updates. Withdrawals require dual authorisation with the Steward.
|-
| '''Secretary''' || Records meeting minutes, maintains membership records, tracks attendance, submits reports and manages Circle communications.
|-
| '''Warden''' || Maintains standards and safeguarding, ensures the code of conduct is followed, manages disputes where appropriate and escalates serious issues when necessary.
|}

Distributing responsibilities across multiple officers increases resilience, accountability and continuity as Circles grow.

==== 3. Every Circle Runs a Logos Node ====
In Version 2, each Circle will be encouraged to operate its own Logos node.

Running a node serves three purposes.

===== Practical =====
Each node strengthens the decentralisation, resilience and sovereignty of the Logos network.

Every Circle becomes an active part of the network&#39;s infrastructure.

===== Symbolic =====
The node becomes the Circle&#39;s shared centre of coordination.

Rather than organising around an individual leader, the Circle organises around its contribution to the network itself.

===== Economic =====
Node operators receive staking rewards which can provide a sustainable source of funding for Circle activities over time.

===== Accessibility =====
Nodes are designed to run on inexpensive, low-power hardware and should require minimal technical expertise to operate with the appropriate tooling and documentation.

==== 4. Long-Term Vision ====
Over time, Circles will evolve beyond meetup groups into self-sustaining local institutions.

Each Circle will combine:

* strong local community
* regular civic action
* shared economic coordination
* distributed leadership
* ownership of network infrastructure

Together, these create a durable foundation for rebuilding civil society through locally organised, globally connected communities.

== Resources for Activists ==
'''Purpose:''' Give your Circle the privacy and autonomy tools it needs for the parts of Circle life Logos does not currently cover.

This page lists only tools external to Logos. For Logos tools and reading see [[Start a Circle 2/About Logos Circles#Logos onboarding resources|Logos onboarding resources]]. For staying in touch between meetups see [[Start a Circle 2/Section 3: Running the First Circle#Staying connected: Recommended Tools|Staying connected]].

There is no single right stack for everyone or every need. What your Circle needs depends on who it is protecting itself from, so ask yourself that first. Everything in this list is free and open source unless the entry says otherwise. This is a non-exhaustive list of tools chosen for their relevance to Circles. Logos is not paid or otherwise incentivized to promote any of them.
